Your First Week with Kriakala
What to expect when a child opens the app for the first time.
Kriakala is built for children aged 4–7 who are learning Hebrew as a second language, so it assumes no prior knowledge at all. On the first launch, choose a profile name and avatar and start at the beginning — the app introduces one letter at a time, plays its sound in a native Hebrew speaker's voice, and asks the child to find that letter among others before moving on. There is nothing to configure and no curriculum to plan.
Short and frequent beats long and occasional. Ten minutes a day, four or five days a week, produces noticeably faster progress than a single long session at the weekend, because letter recognition depends on repeated retrieval rather than time spent. Most children finish the letter-recognition stage within a few weeks, then move on to Nikud vowel marks, then to blending letters and vowels into syllables and words.
If your child stalls on a particular letter, that is normal — the letters that look similar (ב and כ, ד and ר, ה and ח) are the usual sticking points, and the games will keep bringing them back until they stick. Parents and teachers can check the dashboard at any time to see which letters have been mastered and which still need work, so practice at home can target exactly the right thing.
Using Kriakala in a classroom? The schools page covers rollout across a group of students, and how to teach Hebrew reading explains the five-stage method the app follows.
